April 7, 1954: President Eisenhower coined one of the most famous Cold War-era phrases when he warned of a “domino theory” which stipulated that if one country in a region — say, Vietnam — fell to communism, that others would eventually follow. The domino theory would influence President Kennedy — and particularly President Johnson — to increase U.S. involvement in Vietnam.
